Hodge Podge again

1. Thursday (September 22) is the first official day of autumn in this part of the world...how will you welcome the season? I know some of you have been celebrating way too early, but it's official now so permission granted. House Beautiful recently listed ten ways to make your home smell like fall (you can read the list here) What's a scent you love this time of year and how will you add it to your home? I have no sense of smell but I like to scent my home so I have pumpkin spice and baked apple scents that I will use.
2. Apple pie or pumpkin pie? Apple cake or pumpkin bread? Warm apple cider or a pumpkin spice latte?Pumpkin Pie...both.....neither
3. Do you suffer from what is sometimes referred to as an afternoon slump? What helps ward it off before it hits and/or tell us what helps you shake it off once it's here? At times I do and I just take a nap
4. Ladies-how have your friendships with women inspired you or made you a better person? For the men here today- how have your friendships with men inspired you or made you a better person? I cannot imagine my life without girl friends...it is so uplifting to spend an afternoon laughing and sharing.
5. Are you a people pleaser? If you said yes, do you think that's a good or bad thing? If you said no, do you wish you were more of a people pleaser? I guess I'm a people pleaser because I want everyone to be happy...I don't think it is good for me health wise because I keep my true feelings hidden and that can't be good for my health.
6. The seasons are a-changin'...share a favorite song relating in some way to change (not necessarily seasonal change, it could be change of any kind).
7. What do you wish would never change? I actually wish we could leave our clocks alone....setting them an hour ahead or an hour behind in the Spring and Fall is just wrong. Couldn't we just set them 30 minutes one way and leave it.
8.  Insert your own random thought here.I have seen some color changes in a few trees already and it  is a little cooler at night but I don't think Fall will be here for a few more weeks.
Visit Joyce for more Hodge Podge or to join....thanks Joyce.

A Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Monday, September 19, 2016,
11:25a m
Outside my window...
the sun is shining, its 82 degrees
we have had several showers
in the last few days so it
is a little cooler temperature
wise but it doesn't feel cooler
because of the high humidity...
I am thinking...
about food
A Bible Verse I'm sharing....
"When you follow the desires of your
sinful nature, the results are very clear;
sexual immorality, impurity, lustful
pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility,
quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of
anger, selfish ambition, dissension,
division, envy, drunkenness, wild
parties, and other sins like these.
Let me tell you again, as I have before,
that anyone living that sort of life
will not inherit the Kingdom of God."
Galations 5:19-21
This is the scripture basis
of the sermon yesterday
on how to deal with difficult
people which also included
verse 22.
I am thankful...
that as a child of God, I
have been given friuts of
the Holy Spirit which hel
me deal with the difficult
people and situations
of life...
In the kitchen...
I have put on a pot of
peas to go with Okra,
slaw, and cornbread for
Honey Bear's lunch
I am wearing...
sort of off white pants
and a khaki stripped
shirt
I am creating...
finishing the "Trip Around
the World" quilt top...finished
the piecing and have decided
to add a wide border and maybe
a narrow one as well
as this quilt isn't very big...
I am going...
to stay home the rest of
the day...earlier this morning,
I met with the members of
my club in Madison for
photos that will be part of
a magazine article...then
dropped off some items
for our Cultural Arts
Event on Thursday..
I am wondering...
about upcoming tests
for Honey Bear,
A Song that stays on my mind...
I watched the movie
"Practical Magic" last night
and this song was in it...

I am reading...
The Wedding Dress
I am hoping...
that taking my Kindle back
to factory defaults solves
the problems I've been having with
it lately...
I am looking forward to...
daytime temperatures in the 70s
I am learning
to use my left arm more
often since the right
shoulder is painful...
Around the house...
laundry to finish
In his Garden....
tomatoes are trickling in
but that is about all...
A favorite quote for today...
I trust in nature for the stable laws of beauty and utility. Spring shall plant and autumn garner to the end of time. Robert Browning

A Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Monday, September 5, 20016

Outside my window...
86 and sunny, feels like 89
the growing season is slowing and my
potted flowers are showing signs of
being tired...
we have had many Butterflies
this year and they
are a blessing...

I am thinking...
that it is nice to see some
lower temperatures and
lower humidity...we had ample
rain in August so Mosquitoes
are back...

I am thankful...
I can still go for walks with
a minimum of joint pain

In the kitchen...
leftover pizza, and
a few vegetables
from Saturday, Honey
Bear cut up Okra and
cooked it, he said it wasn't as
good as mine...

I am wearing...
white knit pants with
a navy and white, 3 quarter
sleeve pullover

I am creating...
a cleaner carpet, I'm
using my spot bot on
some stains as I write this...
tomorrow I plan to visit Pat
and work on more laundry bags,
we need 40, at the workshop, we only
made 6 but we got all of them cut out, the
handles quilted so it is easier..
we may have another workshop..

I am going...
staying home today but
may need to pick up the
Princess when she gets back from
retreat later...

I am wondering...
if I will lose a little weight this week..

I am reading...
the October Book Club selection

I am hoping...
the stain comes up this time..
I cleaned the carpet in this room
a month ago and it looked
like the stain came out...
and a few weeks later it was back...

I am looking forward to...
doing some sewing soon...
I saw a beautiful Fall quilt,
with Maple Leaves pieced in squares,
and I think I've figured out how to make it..

Around the house...
things are pretty tidy..

A favorite quote for today...
"To reach the port of heaven,
we must sail sometimes with the wind,
and sometimes against it but we must sail..
not drift, and not lie at anchor."
Oliver Wendell Homes

One of my favorite things...
going for walks

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Sewing tomorrow at Pat's
Dr appointment on Thursday morning
Annual Dinner with club meeting that night
Saturday breakfast with Sunday School
class

A peek into my day...
Let's see: I made the bed, walked
for 40 minutes, spot cleaned the carpet
and swept the carpet first,
I think the rest of the day will be
spent reading, watching  Amazon Video,
and talking with Honey Bear
when he returns from work,
then feeding the fish around 4:00

from my photo album...
this is me with my niece December 1992
look at all that hair, back when I still got perms
now my niece is married with a little girl of her own

I know this isn't my usual daybook prompts,
I will try to find that one next time...
I wanted to explain why there were no posts last week:
I had something going on away from home
every day...meetings on 2 days ..a hair
appointment and 3 lunches out plus
shopping and errands...no time
for blogging...Please add Honey Bear
to your pray list, he's had a cough for
months and finally the doctor has done
xrays, sent him for a scan and
he sees a Pulmonologist tomorrow.

temperatures, the great pumpkin,
and trees in russet, gold, and orange..

 I am thinking...
how nice it was to sit outside
with my coffee this morning
the temperature was around
70 with low humidity
A Bible verse I'm sharing...
"Are any of you suffering hardships?
You should pray. Are any of you happy?
You should sing praises."
James 5:14
I am thankful...
for the message and
worship in song we enjoyed
yesterday...we attended a
different church which
conducted worship
in a different way...
for the rain we've gotten
this month...for our health
and having all our needs  met.
In my Kitchen...
There are leftovers from
Friday...and some
meat that I need
to do something with..
I'm planning to make some
pumpkin bread soon..

Saturday Scribbles

In the last two days, we've gotten 1 and 3/4 inches of rain for which I am most thankful...the garden will start producing again and the grass will turn green instead of brown.

This photo made at the concert last weekend to
benefit Vanderbilt Children's Hospital
I tried to capture some of the butterflies on the Butterfly
Bush with iphone instead of my Nickon
which is a little harder when the subject keeps moving

Had planned to go to the movies and see
the new Star Trek movie
but plans change so
I've been having a lazy morning
haven't even made the bed yet
but need to do something productive before
too long...

Its Funny Friday again!

Happy Funny Friday,

Did some one mention
gymnastics??
I had such a good time watching those
girls do their floor exercises...
and the long jumpers and Sprinters
weren't bad either...
made me so tired just watching...
I had to go and get some honey...
....
I think Fall is coming soon...
I saw jack-o-lanterns in front
of the grocery store...
I know we bears will sure be glad
of some cooler weather...
hope everyone at camp good bear is
back home resting up...
Blessings

Thursday Thoughts

So...
Last Saturday, we went to Franklin, Tennessee so that we could attend an outdoor concert at Arrington Vineyards. It was so much fun, although it did rain, we were cozy under our umbrellas. We spent the night in Franklin and came home after breakfast, Sunday.

Monday night I had a meeting at church so I've not really had a chance to do a Day Book this week....

Today I met a group of friends here
This was a textile mill when it opened in the early 1900s. Later in the 1940s it became a shoe manufacturer....it sat empty for years after the factory closed until it was bought by a private citizen and became a place for artists to have studios and for concerts and art exhibits...this was my first visit and we were there for over 1&1/2 hours and didn't see half that was there....We had a tour guide....the place has an open door policy so if an artist is in their studio working, people can walk in to watch and chat with them....Any kind of art you can think of from painting to jewelry making to weaving, etc. is there on the 3 floors of two buildings. It was so much fun and I'd like to go back sometime when I can stay longer and look around more on my own. We really didn't get to spend too much time in each studio.

We got some rain this afternoon and I know there is the promise of cooler temperatures next week....I can't wait....Honey Bear went to work in Dixon, Tennessee this morning early (he works there as a consultant) and will be late getting home so this morning, I cleaned the living room carpet...it always looks so good right after its cleaned...I think it should be done once a month but who has time for that.
Just got an email from my son with a picture:
Isn't he handsome.
I spent some time with Daughter today and she shared some texts from Wonder Boy....sounds like he is settling in...he said he'd gotten a lot of free t-shirts which was good since he was having to change twice a day, it is so hot down there and he walks everywhere. Also, he didn't pack all of his clothes.
So, that made me feel better about him being off to college....

That's my Thursday Thoughts....my man is home and I need to see to him.

Sprinting through the Hodge Podge

1. I read here four creative activities to try this month. They were-calligraphy, make your own cookbook, dance or learn a new type of dance, and letter writing. Which activity on the list appeals to you most? Will you add it to your August?
Every month, I send Birthday cards to the members of my Sunday School class....I try to send handmade ones...does that count as letter writing. I usually do it the last week in the month and just mail them when it gets close to the special day..
2. Bertrand Russell is quoted as saying, 'To be without some of the things you want is an indispensable part of happiness.' Agree or disagree? Explain.
If he means that being without the desires of our heart make us happy, then I disagree...the trick is to look around you and be thankful for the blessings you have already...rearranging furniture and accessories can achieve a new look and satisfy us without spending money on new items.
3. August 17th is National Thriftshop Day...are you a 'thrifter'? If so, tell us about one of your best or favorite finds.
Yes I am a thrifter and I love the antique stores where people rent stalls and set up resale items...I often look through the dishes because I like to change my table scape to reflect seasons and holidays....in fact, those on my table now came from the thrift store (see last daybook)....from the other resale type shop, I have chairs and pictures, etc in my home.
4.  On a scale of 1-10 (with 1= almost none and 10=loads) how would you rate your sense of wanderlust? What kicks your wanderlust into high gear?
about a 6 I suppose....Honey Bear and I like to take drives off the beaten path as we did this past weekend when we went to Arrington Tennessee on Saturday...we spent very little time on the interstate but drove through small towns like College Grove, Cornersville, Lewisburg.
5. Has life felt more like a marathon or sprint so far this month? How so?
A Marathon, I guess, since it is only the 17th of the month and so much has happened....it hasn't gotten any cooler and that first college football game still seems too far off....
6. What do you need to get a jump on before fall officially arrives?
Christmas shopping....since I've only bought two gifts so far...I like to be finished by November....and I need to be sewing and crafting...our craft event is the 22nd of September and looks like I'll only have one item finished to enter.
7. What's the last thing you did with friends or family where you lost track of time?
Every six weeks, I have lunch with my friend, Rene, and we spend the afternoon talking...we have hair appointments that back up to each other so we go out afterward....in July, I needed to cut our time short as Daughter and I were going to the Breast Center for our annual and we had appointments...I needed to pick her up before time....I kept looking at my watch and thinking I had plenty of time and then suddenly I didn't and had to hurry on my way...(I see my friend during that 6 weeks but we're usually in a group when I do.)
8. Insert your own random thought here.
I went to Hobby Lobby yesterday for some retail therapy....well I hadn't been in there long until there were workers every where, chattering and clanging plastic bins down on the floor....needless to say, my calm respite was shattered and it was very annoying...when I got to the check out, I asked what was going on and the clerk said it was freight day....she said it happens every Tuesday, they have to rearrange things and put up new freight...needless to say, I will not be shopping there on Tuesday again...

Thanks, Joyce for continuing to bring us interesting questions to make us think....Readers stop by and visit the Hodge Podge headquarters here.
