A Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY...Tuesday, March 26, 2013 in Huntsville, Alabama, USA

Outside my window...Its 34°F, 1°C, cloudy with a 20% chance of snow and very dark....earlier I saw a Mockingbird fighting off a small flock of blackbirds as well as running off a dove and a Blue Jay from the feeder...he seemed to be very upset and I wondered 'did he have a nest nearby or was he just wanting all of the suet for himself?'

I am thinking...I am so happy to be home today....yesterday I met with my 'movie club' and we went to see "Admission" at the Jones Valley Carmike and then had lunch at Mezza Luna, an Italian restaurant...I was gone most of the day

I am thankful...to be feeling well....for answers to prayers...for the rebate check in the mail from our credit card company...for good books to read and the ability to use my hands to create....for pine trees and Mockingbirds and little baby chicks..

From the kitchen...left over potatoes au gratin, chicken tenders and slaw for dinner

I am wearing...pink and white pajamas and robe

I am creating...angel Christmas ornaments......cross stitch...and hopefully will work some on my rag quilt and the cozy fleece wraps for nursing homes this week...

I am going...to stay home today

One year ago today...it was 61 degrees with a predicted high of 81.....I was working on the SAL quilt, doing some scrapbook layouts and gearing up for a workshop......it was Spring Break and I was planning to see 'Hunger Games' with Wonder Boy and the Princess....I was reading 'Alter of Eden' by James Rollins....Spring had me feeling excited and energetic

I am wondering...Do you own a fur coat? I don't but a couple of the ladies I was with yesterday wore theirs....

These days I'm reading...Believing the Lie by Elizabeth George

I am praying...for Betty who is recovering from surgery....for Genece who has problems with her knee....for Rene as she deals with parent problems.....for my son who will soon be deployed again....for an end to winter and a long Spring....for you my readers

I remember when...we were at our lake house one March during Spring Break when it rained so hard and so much that the water rose up into the boathouse and tried to float items away and I was working so hard to secure everything.

I am looking forward to...warmer temperatures, more sunshine and lots of pretty flowers on the porch......oh, and tomatoes from the garden

A verse for today...Psalm 113:3 From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD's name is to be praised.

I am hearing...nothing....it is quiet here

Around the house...the bed is unmade because Smokey got under the comforter while I was making  it........the dishwasher needs to be unloaded.....I need to do something productive

Song that stays on my Mind...
I heard this, last Thursday, sung by a Mother and her two children, as entertainment at our District meeting...

A favorite quote for today..."Let us first be as simple and well as Nature ourselves, dispel the clouds which hang over our brows, and take up a little life into our pores. Do not stay to be an overseer of the poor, but endeavor to become one of the worthies of the world." Thoreau

One of my favorite things...spending time with friends

A few plans for the rest of the week: Lunch with Wonder Boy tomorrow....going to the movies with him, the princess and their mom on Friday to see "The Great and Powerful Oz".....shopping and preparing for Easter lunch

Saturday Scribbles

The week has simply disappeared into the past at record speed...
and I can't say I accomplished all that much.
I've uploaded the photos from my camera and phone finally so I can
share a few...
I thought this was a good one of Smokey Bear.

And these were of those elusive Bluebirds....they like to eat
the suet so they're coming to the feeder
right now.
This first one is on top of the chicken tractor....
BTW, those little baby chicks are a week old and still
in the bathtub...they've grown much in the short amount of
time we've had them and most have grown bits of wings...At least
one appears to be a Rooster as he has little tail feathers.

This photo of me and the Princess was taken at Celebration Day in
February...
I recently had a bone density scan and they told me
that I measure 5'4.5 which is shorter than I was...
the Princess is 5'4 and Wonder Boy is 5'7 already....so
they will soon outreach me....

I spent Wednesday with my Daughter....we went shoe shopping for her.
She wears white New Balance shoes at work and they have gotten quite
expensive....I reminded her of a coupon in one of those booklets
schools sell so she saved $10. We had a lovely lunch at Sady's
in Downtown Madison......
Thursday we had a road trip with two other friends to a meeting
in Guntersville....the sky was very blue that day and so was the
lake...it was beautiful.

It is raining here today and the temperature is 49 right now...so
different from last week.

A Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY...

Outside my window...It is 39°F,4°C, a little cloudy but the sun is shinning and the high temperature today is supposed to be 55.......March has been very windy so far and we had an abundance of rain recently....this morning, we've had a rabbit, a squirrel, a Junco and a Mockingbird on the porch.

I am thinking...that another week is passing by quickly without much blogging from me....

I am thankful...for the good health of our family....and all the other provisions God provides.......that spring seems to be here and my mood is brighter....for answered prayers

From the kitchen...we've had some good meals this week and the fridge is filled with leftovers that should see the Honey Bear through lunch and dinner today as I don't plan on cooking.....I cooked a pot of Great Northern Beans on Tuesday and made a skillet of cornbread and a bowl of slaw...this is like ambrosia to him and he'll eat on it for days at lunchtime.

I am wearing...black poka-dot pajamas with a pink top

I am creating...Angel Christmas Ornaments, crocheted squares for the Hope blankets, and working some on the cross stitch project.

I am going...to find another box for our CASA Easter baskets the club is doing tonight and load all of my 'stuff' for the meeting into the car.

One year ago today...the sun was shinning, seed pods from the Maple tree were falling on the porch....we'd given some of our young fish away to my Uncle....I had just gotten over an asthma attack and was beginning to feel better...the SAL quilt squares were coming along nicely....I was reading "Leah's Wake"....

I am wondering...why I haven't uploaded any photos lately...they're on the camera but not on the computer

These days I'm reading...The Shoemaker's Wife by Adriana Trigiani

I am praying...not to have allergy related problems this month while the Ornamental Pears are blooming......

I remember when...we didn't change our clocks in the spring and fall

I am looking forward to...a long Spring, hopefully before the humidity of summer

A verse for today...Psalm 23:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Discovering that....I spend too much time playing Mah Jong on my Kindle

I am hearing...the furnace...the washing machine....

Around the house...new neighbors are moving in next door and across the street.....Honey Bear is preparing to get newly hatched chicks and will be keeping them in the guest bath room for a few weeks......I picked up a shelving unit at the thrift store Friday and switched it with the wooden one that was in the garage, finally getting my new craft studio in shape and started working there.........

Song that stays on my Mind...
"Daddy's Hands" by Holly Dunn

A favorite quote for today..."A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words."
- Sent by Donna Roberts
One of my favorite things...opening doors and blinds to let the sun shine in

A few plans for the rest of the week:club meeting tonight....Grocery shopping tomorrow....a wiener roast/marshmallow toast Saturday night....dining out on St. Patrick's Day

From my photo file....

Funny Friday.......and........Friday's Fave Five

Good Friday Morning
to
All you Beary Special People
and
my
Animal Friends
in Blogland!

Yes, I know I've been MIA for
a while
I borrowed this sweater
for Valentine's Day
last year
but Mama Bear
found me a red one for this year...
sorry, no photo

Mama Bear spent last weekend at
General's Quarters B&B
in Corinth, Mississippi
She said it was fabulous.....
then she bearly had time to
repack before she left Monday
for Snowbird Retreat
in Crane Hill, Alabama
Such a globe hopper is she!

Anyway, she asked me to let all
of you know that she is rested
and revived after these small excursions and
the massage she had at the retreat...
Surely, she'll be back to blogging soon...
This winter seems to be a  longlasting
one for her. We bears love it, more napping time.
Wil
