I actually started reading this book before New Years Day. I only finished it
today. It is the first book of his I've read. I found it very interesting and although it looks like its not a large book, it is quite lengthy because the type is small. The story is set in Charleston, one of my favorite cities and is narrated by Leo. It is the tale of 8 unlikely friends who meet before their senior year and remain friends throughout their lives.

This is my book club's pick for February discussion. It is a fictionalized account of the lives of the first family from the Bible told through the eyes of the women in that family. I am reading this book now and am not sure how I feel about it. A friend of mine says you should read the first 100 pages of a book before you decide to continue or give it up..I am on page 111 and plan to continue.

Again this is on my book club list for discussion. This time in March. It is a dual biography of the partnership and unconventional marriage between the President and First Lady.

A Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window...it is a rainy day 44 °F(7 °C)...the birds don't seem to mind...tonight the rain is supposed to change to snow....there is a gust of wind once in a while that I hear through the fireplace.
Hearing...the heater come on although it is still set at 66 from last night..I haven't been chilly enough to turn it up yet....it is always pretty quite here at my house..I live near the end of my cul-de-sac, only the 4th house up...we don't get much traffic other than homeowners and visitors...the mail and other deliveries
I am thinking...that it is time to think about some lunch...the diet is going well, although it seems I see pictures of food everywhere: magazines and TV....this is the fourth week and I've had no chocolate or sweets of any kind...but that isn't what I long for...I want a loaded baked potato or a cheeseburger..oh well, I've promised myself a cheeseburger when I've lost 15 pounds so that is several weeks into the future, possibly Spring..
Feeling thankful for...memories: that I took the time to write in my journal all these years...I can go back and read about time spent with my precious Mother and Daddy...Sunday was Daddy's Birthday, he would have been 85 years old...
I am remembering...Last night, I picked up the Princess and Wonder Boy and we went out for dinner then came back here and played Trivial Pursuit on the Wii
Creating this...I cut the backing and batting for Gardener's Journal...organizing my plastic ware cabinet...planning a vacation with Honey Bear
I am currently reading...finished South of Broad this morning... Eve...thinking of downloading something to the Kindle
One year ago today...much the same as today: trying to get healthy (thanks for all your support)...trying to get through winter...planning for the future
I am hoping...the sun shines tomorrow but it isn't forecast to do so...I do not really want any more snow either..I live in the South where snow is supposed to be a rare thing...I'm hoping to spend some quality time with Daughter this week...its been a while since we've had time alone...
On my mind...what do you think? see what I'm thinking about.
Noticing that...January is about over.....
Just saw the Red Bellied Woodpecker on the feeder.
Pondering these words..."Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder"
From the kitchen...Left over rice, broccoli and fish for dinner tonight...the Weight Watchers Muffins I mentioned last week weren't homemade...thinking about making some vegetable soup this weekend
Around the house....laundry to sort and start...need to schedule a carpet cleaning.
I am praying for...My son, Rene's Dad, Carol's upcoming surgery, Gail's Dad, Daughter & Husband, Honey Bear,
A few plans for the week...Not much going on with me this week...I should have gone to Memphis with Honey Bear...Spend Friday with Daughter, hopefully....groceries one day
One of my favorite things...Spending time with the "grands"

Here is another Bench in the snow for you, Paulie!

Meet Me On Monday

Welcome to the 32nd edition of
"Meet Me On Monday!"

Blogging  is a funny thing...we tell our most intimate thoughts for all to read  and yet most of the time I find myself sitting and wondering, "who is  this person!?"  I know them...but yet I don't know them!  I want  to know who the person is behind all those words so I thought of a great  way for all of us to "meet" each other!

Every Sunday Never Growing Old will post five get to know you  questions that you can copy and paste into your own Monday post and we  can all learn a little more about each and every one of us!!

Visit Java, her answers always include pictures.

Questions:

1.  What is your favorite kind of fudge?
Chocolate with nuts
2.  Is there snow outside your window?
No, it is actually 48 degrees here today but supposed to get colder this afternoon and tonight...snow in the forecast for tomorrow.
3.  What is your favorite meal of the day?
Usually, its dinner, however since I am dieting all meals are favorites...I'm always hungry.
4.  Do you text on your cell phone?
Back in the Fall, I got an iPhone and I do text now..mostly to my daughter, we can text during the day while she is at school when we can't chat online or talk on the phone...If I need to get in touch with her, I text her and vice versa...I'm hoping I will be able to do the same with my son soon...He has an iPhone too and I'm hoping I'll be able to see him in real face time..... I don't, however, use all the abbreviations for words that some do.
5.  Waffles or pancakes?I'm not sure I favor one over the other. I eat pancakes more often though...this reminds me to get my waffle iron out and use it.

Thanks for stopping by.

Creating this...getting together the elements for a couple of scrapbook pages...bought the batting for Gardner's Journal on Monday so I need to get that started.

A Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window...Its 34 °F,1 °C and everything is white and bright...the snow is melting some but there is still plenty out there....this afternoon the temperature is supposed to begin going down and that will possibly result in ice forming....oooh, I hate this part of winter...the birds are finally able to reach the seed and suet on the feeder.
Hearing...the dryer running and also the furnace
I am thinking...about our club meeting on Thursday night and if I'll have to reschedule
Feeling thankful for...not having to go anywhere since the roads are almost impassable...that I heard from my son last night and he is still in the states.
I am remembering...how my Daddy always wanted to make snow cream(like ice cream) whenever we had a few inches of snow.
Creating this...again I am not really working on anything...should be though...this morning, I finally got the Christmas decorations packed back up and put away.
I am currently reading...South of Broad (at night)....The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo whenever I have a chance to read during the day...
One year ago today...It was going to be 40 degrees, the snow was melting, I was trying to get back to a healthy lifestyle...
I am hoping...that the snow continues to fall off the pine tree limbs and no more break from the weight....that the water on the roads doesn't freeze
On my mind...what to have for lunch...I'm later getting this daybook posted and it is lunch time....several of you commented on my lunch dates last week and the fact that I am dieting...eating out is easier for me than eating at home as I tend to order healthy salads or grilled chicken and fish...at home it is easy to get in a comfort food groove when I am alone so much....lost 3.4 pounds last week so I'm feeling good about that...wish I hadn't gained so much before I got the motivation to do something about it.
Noticing that...most of my neighbors didn't try to go to work...I know a lot of the government contractors and offices are closed today...
Pondering these words...The 4th Chapter of Ecclesiastes: There is a time for everything, a season for every activity under heaven.....a time for war and a time for peace......and further on: God has made everything beautiful for its own time
From the kitchen...I'm thinking a big salad with some imitation crab meat might be good for dinner tonight.....lunch may be a grilled chicken sandwich...my mouth is already watering...must be strong and not eat any chips with that.....or perhaps just tuna and crackers would be wise
Around the house...things are beginning to look better since I've put away the Christmas decorations...soon it will be time to think about Valentine's Day.....I still have a few boxes of things from my move that I need to go through...decide to give to charity...Thursday is housecleaning day....
I am praying for...Honey Bear's safe return on Friday...clear roads and a good first meeting for our club....continuing uplifted mood (no depression)....
A few plans for the week...no plans away from home except the meeting Thursday night
One of my favorite things...coffee in bed on cold winter mornings
From my picture file...
This little Mocking Bird is all huddled up trying to stay warm.
Thank you for visiting my daybook....credit goes to Peggy for the creation of this weekly journaling among bloggers.

Meet Me On Monday

Well, we have snow again (sorry, Paulie).
It began snowing around 8 PM last night and it looks like we have about 6 inches...more in places....much more than on Christmas Day.
Honey Bear is in Nashville this week and he left way before the snow started last night.
I had the outside lights on and watched it snow until bedtime (around 11:30)...we had some visitors: a pair of Opossums trying to find a warm place, I guess...anyway one of them kept trying to dig under the back porch..I threw some things at it until it left...that happened twice.

Welcome to the 30th edition of
"Meet Me On Monday!"

A Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window...36 °F(2 °C) but it is supposed to reach the mid 50s today...there's a Red Bellied Woodpecker on the feeder(I just remarked to Honey Bear a few days ago that we'd not seen one this winter)...Squirrels appear to be building a nest in the pine tree at the back of our yard.
Hearing...all is quiet here this morning except for Smokey talking to the Birds, he makes little chirping noises
I am thinking...I need to change my header...too Christmas looking
Feeling thankful for...the wonderful 3 day weekend I had with Honey Bear
I am remembering...our long walk yesterday
Creating this...no new projects yet but I'm planning on finishing up a few UFOs...and creating a tidy house(time to put away all the Christmas 'stuff')
I am currently reading..still reading 'South of Broad' by Pat Conroy...plus 'Susannah's Garden' by Debbie Macomber on my kindle.
One year ago today...it was Winter and cold...I was seeing the same Bird at the feeder...had spent time with extended family on Saturday...Honey Bear was back at work...I still had to take down the tree...mostly the same as today
I am hoping...to stick to WW program, keep my points tracker, exercise some each day...to look at part of the picture and not the whole thing...
On my mind...getting this post finished so I can get on with my day....needing to visit you...I'm missing my friends
Noticing that...the sun is still asleep..wish I was
Pondering these words..."Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning, I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly" Psalm 5:3
From the kitchen...Honey Bear took all the leftovers with him to eat this week...there are still treats left from the Holidays...I'm planning on eating only healthy food this week
Around the house...little piles of this and that...Christmas decorations, mail, office clutter, dirty clothes...just piles that need clearing...and I didn't vacuum yesterday, now I'm wondering should I just wait until I finish undecorating (is that a word?)
I am praying for...no appetite, no cravings, lots of willpower and tons of energy
A few plans for the week...lunch with friend, Rene, today...lunch with Daughter tomorrow...Christian Women's Club luncheon on Thursday then a Pampered Chef party that night.....book club meeting on Friday morning....its another short week, I hope I accomplish much
One of my favorite things...spending time with friends
From my picture file
Paulie, I made this photograph for you.

Meet Me On Monday

Welcome to the 29th edition of
"Meet Me On Monday!"
brought to you by Java.

"Its a great way to to meet new friends and for others to get to know me better....one Monday at a time!!!"....as quoted by the Chacogirl!! I will make this SIMPLE and FUN!!!

1.  Do you have any New Year's resolutions?
I don't call them resolutions. I call them goals and yes I do make them...I make plans to be a better person in different areas of my life...one that I made this year is to get back to morning 'Quiet Time' before computer time....I also make project goals such as finishing UFOs....the genealogy scrapbooks that I made this year, for my family was one project that had been on my list for a couple of years.
2.  What food item are you craving right now?
Well, since I haven't had breakfast yet, I'm just wanting food, period. However, for a week or so, I've been craving a good steak...I don't eat red meat very often and it has probably been a year since I've had a steak.
3.  When is your birthday?
May 4th, I'm a Taurus
4.  What were you doing an hour ago?
Reading my Bible and writing in my journal....then I did some work for my women's club..trying to organize my thoughts and plans for the meeting next week so I can make an agenda....my financial committee meets tomorrow and I had to supply them with the charities we had supported in 2009-2010.
5.  Last thing you cooked?
New Year's Dinner: Boiled Ham, Cornbread, Great Northern Beans, Spinach
We had leftover Barbecue for lunch yesterday and went out to dinner.
