the lovely Java...

2.  What is your current weather? 46 degrees and breezy with sunshine

I always take off my jewelry when I get home from whatever outing I've been on.....years ago, I kept my engagement and wedding rings on until one day, I noticed the stone was missing....I had been doing housework and there was no telling when or where it had fallen out. 5.  Do you eat a snack before bed? I usually have something between dinner and bedtime, although, it isn't a good idea when one is watching their weight...I've found that going to bed hungry isn't a good idea either because I have trouble falling asleep.....

Funny Friday

Happy Friday every bear....
Wil here...
We've been having some cooler

Blackberry Winter..
which happens when Blackberries are blooming...
************************
Mama found my sweaters recently....they'd
been hiding for ages..there was one for
Halloween and one for Valentine's Day
and this one which I suppose is
a sort of Easter/Spring one
Since I am a male bear
confident in my masculinity(whatever

A Simple Woman's Daybook

From Mama Bear's Journal
FOR TODAY...Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Outside my window...its wet from an early morning shower and cloudy....temperature is 61 °F, (16 °C)..more showers in the forecast for today, tonight and tomorrow morning....its a good day to be home....

I am thinking...I need a break from house cleaning to eat lunch...it is now 1:40 pm....I need to finish this post I started this morning...

I am thankful...for the energy and motivation to do the housework that is needed....

In the kitchen...clean floors and countertops...plus baseboards and window sills are clean, too.....brownie mix waiting for the Princess to get home from school....she wants to make dessert for dinner.....a layered one....which reminds me to thaw the whipped topping...I'm planning Chicken Fettucini Alfredo and salad for dinner....

I am wearing...my pajamas....I know, I know...but I often clean house in them, they're cool and lose....I'll be cleaning myself up after I finish dusting and vacuuming the bedroom....

I am creating...pillowcase dresses for missions....a clean house...

I am going...to finish this soon

I am wondering...if I'll need to meet the bus so the Princess doesn't get wet or will it stop raining before then....she gets off at the corner, about 3 houses up...

I am reading...Homecoming by Cathy Kelly....this is the first book I've read by her...I like her character sketches....her style reminds me of Maeve Binchy....Homecoming is set in Ireland...

I am hoping...to catch up on my work here at home today....we have a workshop tomorrow to make more pillowcase dresses and also some T-shirt dresses...

I am looking forward to...a shower after I finish cleaning......spending time with friends tomorrow...

I am learning...to make these dresses...

Around the house...its quiet except for the sound of the rain and the clothes dryer......I cleaned the living room yesterday....I have a couple of more loads of laundry to finish this week and I really need to iron a few things....

I am hearing...see "Around the house" above....

I am pondering...why I seem to sabotage my weight loss plan so often....

A favorite quote for today..."I will look up to the mountains ...does my help come from there?  My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth".  Palm 121: 1&2

One of my favorite things...the sound of wind chimes....I repaired several of ours this weekend and they sound so lovely now....

Meet Me On Monday/Monday Quiz About Me

Java's back with the 63rd edition of
MMOM
my post for Heather's "quiz about me" will follow
Java's Questions:.......and my answers
1.  Right now I could really eat _________?
Since I've just enjoyed half a Blueberry muffin from Costco, I'm really not in the mood for anything else.....but definitely could go for another cup of coffee...
2.  Full length pants or capri's?
They each have their place.....if the temperature is above 60, I'd have to say capris....any cooler and I'd go for longer pants unless I'm walking a nature trail or going to dinner or church......I only began wearing capris a couple of years ago and I prefer the ones that just barely cover the knee and no longer.
3.  The best smelling men's cologne (women's perfume for the guys playing) is ________?
Since I have no sense of smell, this really doesn't apply to me.....years ago before I lost it, there was a men's cologne that I really loved for Jim to wear but I can't remember the name of it.....once upon a time, Heaven Scent was my favorite women's cologne.....now with my allergies, I'd just prefer if no one wore cologne in close quarters.
4.  What is your favorite kind of Cheesecake?
Cheesecake or Key Lime Pie are my favorite desserts to order in a restaurant.....I like my Cheesecake plain with cherry topping...
5.  What TV Show do you currently never miss?
It has been a couple of months since I've really watched any TV....I was watching Amazing Race for a few weeks but then forgot about it.....last night when we first went to bed, Jim had a National Geographic show on about the Inuit people in the Frozen North and how they got their food. I watched that for a few minutes before I turned to my book, he turned the TV off and went to sleep. I'd say it wasn't on longer than 15 minutes.

Thanks, Java

Heather at Acting Balanced has started a new Monday edition
of meet and greet. Check it out!
Heather's questions:
1. Finish this sentence - I dream of....
the time when we no longer have to write a big check to include with our income tax return.....it really hurt to cough up that one yesterday.....recently we payed off our mortgage and didn't leave much surplus in our accounts, I hadn't counted on having to deplete them even more for the IRS.......

2. If you could choose your last meal, what would it be?
Chicken Cannelloni from Terra nova's Restaurant

3. What was your favorite toy as a child?
My first thought was books but since those aren't really toys, it would be my dolls. We didn't have a lot of toys....we played cowboys with pieces of wood for guns, our dishes were can lids and aluminum pie tins, anything that Mom had discarded from the kitchen. We usually received a doll at Christmas.

4. What color looks best on you?
Red

And don't forget to add a 5th Question on your own blog so we can answer as we hop around!
#5  Which way do you load your toilet tissue roll.....to unwind under or over?
Join us for this blog hop and I'll try to drop by and answer your #5 question......my answer is over

Wednesday Hodge Podge

My Outdoor Wednesday post is at the bottom.

Fore! Time for Wednesday Hodge Podge

Joyce is back and has some lovely photos
and thoughts to share on her trip to Shanghai...
We missed you, Joyce.
1. Have you ever played golf? Any interest in playing? Do you have a significant other who loves to play? Did you watch The Masters this past weekend?

The answer to all these questions is no. Honey Bear has never been interested as he believes it takes time away from family.

2. Hats are back in fashion this spring...how do you feel about wearing a hat? (fyi-I'm not talking baseball caps) When was the last time you wore one?
I love hats and almost wore one Easter Sunday....I wish I had after I saw several others had done so.....the last time I wore a hat was March 22. They are great when you don't want to do your hair.

3. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 meaning proficient and 1 meaning "I'd starve", how adept are you at using chopsticks?
That would be a 1.

4. Has technology taken over?
Yes, it has! And if you know anything about electronic pulse and its effect on power grids, anything metal or electronic, you'd be preparing for the possibility. Just take a minute to ponder how much of our world runs on computers and don't forget your automobile.

5. In the course of a day how often do you look in a mirror?
once or twice

6. Tulip or Daffodil? Daffodils are easy to grow but there is just something special and delicate about a tulip.  I think I like daffodils better.

7. I am proud of myself for __continuing to learn new things___.

8. Insert your own random thought here. see #4
Just before April 1, I put up that A-Z button and intended to play along....here it is April 11 and I've forgotten all about it.

I caught this image of Mr Bumble Bee on the
ground cover outside the front door. He is
after the pollen off the Yellow blooms....see it
there on his hind leg.

Honey Bear made this photo of a first tiny Squash forming
and the first few ripe strawberries.

Join Susan and others as we share glimpses of
our outdoor world

A Simple Woman's Daybook

From Mama Bear's Journal
FOR TODAY...Tuesday, April 10, 2012

Outside my window...the sun is shinning, there's a slight breeze, the temperature is  67 °F,  (19 °C)...it is a beautiful Spring day....we've been enjoying radishes and a few strawberries from the garden....

I am thinking...Life is good....

I am thankful...and reminded of these words from a song by Martina McBride: "I have been blessed...and I feel like I've found my place...I thank God for all I've been given...at the end of everyday...I am so blessed."

In the kitchen...not much....I'm thinking of having something simple for lunch...

I am wearing...my pajamas as usual....I promise you that I do eventually get dressed.

I am creating...more blocks for this...

and scrapbook pages for the grandchildren...
I am going...no place until Thursday

I am wondering...if we'll have showers today and if I need to go put our cushions away that are still on our outdoor furniture...there is a slight chance and the sun has gone under a cloud...

I am reading...Dark Rising by Greg Beck......a couple of weeks ago, Daughter and I swapped Kindles so we could read each other's books....I have about finished hers as she only had a few....not sure when I'll get mine back as there were 47 books on there.....I ordered a couple of paperbacks yesterday from Amazon, though.

I am hoping...it doesn't rain although we have a fire hazard warning because the humidity level is so low.

I am looking forward to...our monthly club meeting...it seems so long since we met....

Around the house...things are mostly tidy...I need to make the bed and dust Jim's end table....

I am hearing...an airplane in the far distance....a Dove cooing....silence (I love silence)

I am pondering... O may I find in anger’s grip
The strength to temper tongue and lip;
But failing that, may God grant me
The courage for apology. —Kilgore

A favorite quote for today... A soft answer has often been the means of breaking a hard heart.

One of my favorite things...finding joy in everyday things

Meet Me On Monday

It seems Java has announced the return of
hosting MMOM on Monday
April 16th.
We've enjoyed doing the Monday
meet and greet with Heather in Java's absence....
Henceforth, it will be called:

This week's questions:
1. Which three words would describe you best?
Easy-going, Loving, Calm

2. Describe your favorite place in the whole world.
I love visiting Charleston's historic district...I'm not sure I would want to live there, but about every 3-4 years, I get a hankering to return...I enjoy the gardens, the courtyards, the side porches and fences......I think its the history that makes it special to me...I've always loved American history.

3. Sunsets, Sunrises or Full Moons?
Sunsets....I never want to get up early enough to see a sunrise....full moons: well, they do effect ones mood...

4. If you were to get reincarnated what or who would you want to come back as?
This is a tough question....definitely a female and preferably one with similar values..

And don't forget to add a 5th Question on your own blog so we can answer as we hop around!
What is your favorite jelly bean flavor? I always enjoy the red ones whether they're cherry or red hot flavored....I tend to eat my least favorites first and save the red ones until last....I do the same with M&Ms.

Be sure and stop by Heather's place at Acting Balanced so you can read her answers and visit other blog hoppers for this Monday event.

A Simple Woman's Daybook

From Mama Bear's Journal....

FOR TODAY...Wednesday, April 4, 2012

Outside my window...the sun is shinning...it is  63 °F,  (17 °C)..thunderstorms are forecast for this afternoon..the plants I moved outside, after wintering inside, are clustered together where I can see them...the Coleus and Poinsettia are a nice contrast to the other green ones...I need to put the coleus in a bigger pot or in the ground and their tops need to be pinched so they don't grow any leggier...I'm wondering if the Mandevilla will start blooming again soon...I've never kept one over the winter before.....we have Goldfinch and Purple Finch feeding at the Thistle feeder....and best of all, the Red Headed Woodpeckers are back from their Winter home.....

I am hearing...farming equipment in the field at the end of the street (planting cotton).....Smokey eating dried food

I am thinking...about the time I spent with the Princess yesterday....we did some scrapbooking...I helped her with her homework....we sat outside by the pond while I fed the fish......I made chicken Quesadillas  for dinner....

I am thankful...for electricity, AC, the beauty of nature, changing seasons, friends and family

In the kitchen...I'm making a beef/tomato/noodle casserole for dinner

I am going...nowhere today....staying home

I am wondering...about the coincidence of my waiting until Wednesday to do my day book and Joyce taking a break from Hodge Podge this week.

I am reading...The Art of Racing in the Rain.....I just started it and am finding it enjoyable...it is told from the view point of a dog....he recounts how he came to live with his present owner and the events of their life together.

I am hoping...for clear skies on Friday

I am looking forward to...spending time with my sister on Friday

Around the house...things are mostly tidy and laundry is caught up..

Meet Me On Monday

Today is Monday, the second day of April
and time for MMOM
hosted by
Heather.

1. Did you prank, get pranked or ignore April Fool's Day?
I thought about the fact it was April Fool's Day only once. Mostly, I
thought of it as my oldest granddaughter's Birthday.
2. What is the most unusual thing you have in your pantry or refrigerator right now?
I don't think there is anything unusual...there's some chicken which definitely needs to be tossed.
3. If you were in the "Miss America" (or another) talent competition, what would your talent be?
Based on the types of talents usually expressed by the contestants, I would be disqualified....I can't play an instrument....I might sing Karaoke if that was allowed.
4. What is one thing you miss about being a kid?
having my parents alive........
5. If you HAD to change your name, what would you change it to?
I have, actually changed my name, once when I married and took my husband's last name.....and again about 1996 when I changed my middle name....I had been called by my nickname for so many years that I decided to make it legal.

As time permits, pay a visit to Heather and check out the answers of the other MMOM players.
