A Simple Woman's Daybook

From Mama Bear's Journal.....FOR TODAY...Monday, October 22, 2012, 7:45am

Outside my window...It's 56°F, 13°C, and cloudy, expected to reach 81 today....all this week is going to feel like Summer has returned...

I am thinking... about how long it has been since I wrote in my journal...

I am thankful...for the wonderful worship service yesterday....for a good night's sleep....for my wonderful Honey Bear

From the kitchen...Peas, Cornbread, Corned Beef Hash, and slaw for dinner tonight

I am wearing...pajamas and a robe

I am creating...a Christmas wall hanging.....quilting SKOW....working on the cross stitch project...

I am going...to spend the day on housework and hopefully get some sewing done this afternoon, also packing for the conference which is Tues-Thurs this week...

One year ago today....I was at Lake Eufaula State Park, attending our annual conference....the temperature was much the same....I was reading Love Transcends Time

I am wondering...if we will find any Fall color on our vacation next week...it seems to be earlier this year and since we're going further north, I'm afraid the leaves will all be on the ground

These days I'm reading...A Tennessee Journal.....takes place in 1913 and tells the story of sharecroppers and landowners...

I am praying...for sunny, Fall like days for our vacation....not too cold and not rainy.....we'd like to take some drives and maybe do a little walking...*for our upcoming election, *for my struggle with weight, *for my children & grandchildren, *for my Honey Bear

I remember when...I was about 8 years old and we lived in the "barn" house...we had chickens in the barn yard (not the barn house yard-there was actually another barn)...I used to go out to the barn and look for eggs...those chickens were cagey and would lay their eggs in the oddest places...it was like a real "Easter" egg hunt every day.....Now, Honey Bear is building a chicken tractor and planning to purchase chickens in the Spring...

I am looking forward to...the conference, although I've been stressing about certain aspects and losing sleep over it....this year our County is hosting and my club has many assignments to make the conference run smoothly...My Daughter was supposed to check in our County's Cultural Arts (first place winners) but she is going to be a hostess, meeting members from all over the state and helping them to find the right location, park their cars, etc. So checking in the crafts is going to be my job.....I am supposed to sale tickets for our fund raiser quilt drawing at the registration table after I get the crafts checked in....

A verse for today..."It is better to be godly and have little than to be evil and possess much." Psalm 37:16

Discovering that....it is hard to become motivated on days when the sun is hiding...

I am hearing...Honey Bear's car as he leaves for work and the garage door closing....

Around the house...vacuuming.....bed linens to change.....tidying to do....

Song that stays on my Mind..."Days of Elijah" from Church yesterday....."Behold he comes, riding on the clouds, shining like the sun, at the trumpets' call"

A favorite quote for today...A smile is the light in your window, that tells others that there is a caring, sharing person inside...Denis Waitley

One of my favorite things...Quiet Monday mornings at home..

A few plans for the rest of the week:conference Tues-Thurs.....hair appointment Thursday afternoon....grocery shopping and bank on Friday....prepare for vacation

From my photo file....Wonder Boy and the Princess at Disney World early in October

Funny Friday

Good Friday morning Everybeary
Wil here
It has certainly felt like Fall
here in our neck of the woods
this week....
Some days we needed the AC
Some days I was sure happy to
have my furry layer....
Mama has been cooking
lots of soups, to warm
a body and make
us feel cozy.....
The trees are sure pretty....
and lots of colored leaves
are starting to cover the ground in
some places....
Here at home there are just a few on
the porch each day and
Papa blows them off....
Soon as they all fall off,
he'll blow them into a pile and
bag them to
use in the garden.....
Mayhaps, I can go out and jump in
the piles before he bags them away...
Happy Weekend
Wil

1. What is the most interesting fact you have learned recently?
How to make Apple Butter in the Crock Pot.
2. The alarm goes off on Monday morning.  What is your first thought?
Where do I have to be today.....Usually the only time I use the alarm is Sunday morning. We go to an 8:00 Sunday School and have to leave by 7:30 so I get up at 5:30....the rest of the week, I just ask Honey Bear to wake me, he doesn't usually sleep later than 6:30
3. What is the most memorable movie line of all time?
I can think of several.....Make My Day!!, Here's Looking at You Kid!, Frankly, my Dear, I don't give a damn!
4. Describe a situation that always seems to try your patience.
Having to wait on someone else...I'm always early and hate waiting on someone who is running late.

And don't forget to add a 5th Question on your own blog so we can answer as we hop around!

Saturday Scribbles

I can see that I haven't posted all week. I'd like to say it was because I was so busy being productive with chores, creating, and other activities but the truth is, the week was mostly cloudy with rain and chilly temperatures and I just wasn't in the mood to blog or do much else.

I made this one photograph this week of a Hickory tree in someone's yard. I used my phone so the photo doesn't really do the tree justice. This is one of the prettiest types of trees we have in the Fall.

We're supposed to be having a few more days of sunny warm weather and I need it. This morning, the sun has peaked out a couple of times but its still cloudy, but not cold. Its too early for winter. I love Fall and I want it to last until Thanksgiving, at least. I want to do all the things outside that I've put off because it was too hot and humid.

Tuesday, my Club had breakfast at Cracker Barrel to celebrate Alabama Homemakers Week. That was fun. So many times when we get together we are conducting business or working on project, so it was nice to just have time to chat with each other about other things.

Thursday morning, we had a workshop to make table decorations and favors for our upcoming state conference. I'll try to photograph these and show them to you later. We have another workshop this coming week for the same purpose. Our conference is the 23-25 and there is still much to do to get ready. We are giving away a pink and white quilted wall hanging for donations to the local Breast Cancer Research organization. Tuesday night we will have a speaker who is a Breast Cancer survivor and a local TV personality. We have also made a quilt for her as a thank you, I have to stitch down the binding on it this week.

Frost was predicted Wednesday night and Honey Bear had to cover our plants for protection. I have got to wash, repot and bring in some of the more delicate ones before the weather gets much cooler.

I've been doing a little Christmas Shopping as I'm out and about. I usually have it finished by November 1. It isn't as difficult as it once was. I don't have as many to buy for and my 'grands' would just as soon have money now that they are older.

Hope your weekend is going well.

Charlie Brown....he just wants to be liked4.  What's something you're competitive about?
I'm not a very competitive person, even when playing games
5. October is National Popcorn Popping Month...are you a fan?  How do you like your popcorn?'

I don't think it is
7.  In terms of architecture, what's the most beautiful building you've seen up close and in person?

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Had a lovely time with the Princess yesterday....she is growing up quickly now, next Tuesday she'll be 12 and they will be in Disney World for her Birthday...she showed me how do a photo collage in power point, see the new header...we didn't get much creating done in the studio but it was lovely to spend time with her and just catch up. She helped me clean up the kitchen after dinner before we drove her home.

Stop by and visit Joyce. We thank her for coming up with such thought provoking questions each week.

A Simple Woman's Day Book

From Mama Bear's Journal and

FOR TODAY...Tuesday, October 2, 2012

Outside my window...a Squirrel is busy gathering pine straw and Coconut fiber from my flower pots to build his nest in the Maple tree....its 60°F, 16°C, and expected to reach 70, today (wonderful)....it is wet because we had several inches of rain yesterday and during the night...now a foggy, misty rain is still falling...our Maple tree continues to become more red as the leaves change color..very few leaves are falling, though...soon I will need to wash some of my potted plants and bring them back inside for the winter...

I am thinking...about what I need to do today and the rest of the week...feeling much better than last week and so am anxious to get my housework finished and do some creating.

I am thankful...for the cooler weather, for the opportunity to stay home and do some much needed work, for God's provision, his blessing, his faithfulness, for friends and family...

From the kitchen...Chicken with Fetticine Alfredo and a salad for dinner with some of Rene's Sour Dough Bread, I think...the Princess will be coming after school and this meal will make her happy...she's a pasta lover........we have a few late tomatoes from the garden and really should have another BLT before they're all gone....

I am wearing...pink pajamas and a pink tank top, barefoot and covered in a red afghan

I am creating...(sorry no photos today)...ideas for Christmas gifts....binding for the Breast Cancer Quilt....a neat studio (I hope)

I am going...to stay home until time to pick up the Princess (she can't ride the bus to my house)

One year ago today...It was 56 degrees...but the days high was still in the 80s.....Honey Bear was working only 3 days a week in Memphis, gearing down for retirement from that job...Son would soon be returning from Afghanistan....I was getting ready to quilt the Tis the Season quilt....Fall decorating was done...I was reading another Debbie Macomber book...I was sticking to my eating plan, tracking my food, losing a pound a week...

I am wondering...about possible Christmas gifts to make and buy

These days I'm reading...Chasing Mona Lisa by Tricia Goyer...thanks to Barbara H at Stray Thoughts for loaning me this book via my kindle...

I am praying...that I can get back on track with my eating and exercise....safe travel for Daughter and the children on Sunday as the go to Disney World...my SIL, just diagnosed with Hotchin's...for our country and the upcoming election

I remember when...during football season in the Fall, we dressed in school colors on Friday's, the cheerleaders would go room to room and the students would follow them to the gym for pep rallies, cheering as we went, the players would get up and say a few words as would the coach, firing up the spirit, getting ready for the contest taking place that night...

I am looking forward to...spending time with the Princess this afternoon (its been several weeks since she was here)...

A verse for today...I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. —Philippians 4:11

Discovering that....days are already getting shorter

I am hearing...traffic in the far distance....clocks ticking....its very quiet

Around the house...clothes to put away from yesterday's laundry, a little ironing, the bed to make, then........some tidying in the studio and some sewing

Song that stays on my Mind...Hello World by Lady Antebellum

A favorite quote for today...Contentment is not possessing everything but giving thanks for everything you possess.from Our Daily Bread

One of my favorite things...listening to beautiful music while I work

A few plans for the rest of the week:

Monday and Quiz Time

1. What is your favorite Autumn color?
I think that would be red, with all its variations, Orange would be second on my list.

I think I would leave it the same....I made some poor decisions and some mistakes.....however, I met my Honey Bear when I was 14 and married him when I was 17, that was 45 years ago so I wouldn't change that part of my high school days.
3. Name something that you tried because you thought you'd like it, but in reality didn't meet your expectations
Bridge.......years ago I joined a club and thought I'd enjoy playing but the game and I just couldn't become friends.

4. Do you have a favorite "Monday" song?
Monday, Monday.....not really

And don't forget to add a 5th Question on your own blog so we can answer as we hop around!
Do you have a big flat screen TV at your house?

Visit Heather and get involved in this Monday blog hop.
