Wednesday HodgePodge/Outdoor Wednesday

Here is my photo for Outdoor Wednesday. I knew I should have gotten it ready to post automatically since most of my day yesterday was spent on the road. I arrived safely.....For my readers in the colder climates: Yesterday it reached 109F with a heat index of 120F. Today is supposed to be even hotter. It feels much worse when one is surrounded by pavement, sidewalks and concrete buildings than in the countryside......I went by to visit the girls at my old nail salon and when I came back to my car, the thermometer said the outdoor temperature was 111F.

1. Share a favorite song lyric.
If heaven wasn't so far away
I'd pack up the kids and go for the day
Introduce them to their grandpa
Watch them laugh at the way he talks
I'd find my long lost cousin John
The one we left back in Vietnam
Show him a picture of his daughter now
She's a doctor and he'd be proud
Then tell them we'd be back in a couple of days
In the rear view mirror we'd all watch 'em wave
Yeah, and losing them wouldn't be so hard to take
If heaven wasn't so far away
song by Justin Moore
2. When was the last time someone yelled at you?
Been so long I can't remember
3. Money, fame, happiness...are they mutually exclusive?
No Money and Fame do not automatically bring happiness. Often they are the cause of much unhappiness instead.
4. What is your favorite dish to prepare for family and friends that doesn't require turning on the stove, oven or an outdoor grill?
Gosh, some sort of salad, I suppose.
5. The first week of August is National Simplify Your Life Week. What is one thing you could do this week to simplify your life? Will you do it?
Make a menu before I shop and stick to it I used to do this back when my husband had a job where he came home every night for dinner.....seems so long ago now....but hopefully in a couple of months that will be the norm again. And yes, I was already thinking along those lines before I saw this question. I even have copies of those menus and could use them again.
6. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being 100% and 1 being not at all) how tuned in are you to your country's national political scene?
I hate to admit it but I guess that would be a 5...I get a condensed version from my husband...
7. What are your final parting words to the month of July?
Please God, let August be cooler.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
The Princess got her own phone yesterday. Actually, I believe it is just a sort of house phone, since, like me, Daughter chose not to get a land line for the new house...She sent me a text message about 2 minutes after she got it.....made this grandmother feel so good to know she would want to talk to me first......she often chats with me on line also....I wish I had this sort of relationship with all my grandchildren.. unfortunately, I've lived many miles away from my son's family during their childhood so this hasn't been possible.

  1. How precious is that picture? It's hot here too, and I am so glad most of the summer is in the past.

I've missed Wil's posts. Any chance he will be posting tomorrow - after all it's "Funny Friday"?

    Hugs

  2. That is an awesome song. I recently heard it and loved it. We still have a land line. I just don't like the feel of a cell phone to use it as a everyday phone. That was so sweet of her to txt you :)

  3. Hi Love Bears All Things -

I enjoyed reading this post. Your goodbye to July was really funny - that'd be my thoughts too! It was 100 degrees in June here. June!!!! More of the same in July only hotter. Now it's August and I'm wondering if it's possible we'll get a little bit of a reprieve. Stay cool!

  4. Amen to #7.

So neat that your granddaughter texted you first thing!

I need to get into planning menus, too. I never have done that like I should.

  6. I enjoyed your answers, and I love the squirrel picture! I've never been one to do menus, I decide at the last minute what to cook...probably because I dread doing it :(

  7. I was better at planning menus ahead when I was cooking for more than 2. It was 78 when I left NJ this afternoon. I'm at my daughters in SC now and it is about 20 degrees hotter. Stay cool!

  9. Love your answer to #7!!!!

In fact, your whole work this week, I could've been the author of your post. It's the same ol' same ol' here too.

    {love the squirrel photo]

    Happy Friday to you.
