A Simple Woman's Daybook

For today....
Outside my window...Its 43 °F, (6 °C) and sunny....the grass is so green after the recent rain and warmer temperatures...there is lots of bird activity...the Mockingbird pair are seen at the feeder regularly...Mr Squirrel is still trying to figure out how to get the can of bird seed open....the Maple tree has little red buds on it...Bradford Pears are putting on the green, Tulip Trees are blooming as is Plum....Folks, I think Old Man Winter has gone to sleep.
Hearing...clocks are ticking, fans whirring
I am thinking...blogging is taking up way too much time this morning
Feeling thankful for...a day at home...as you know, I like to stay at home on Mondays...but once a quarter we have a county board meeting at 9:30a.m. Yesterday, I went to get our President to give her a ride...she is maybe 15 minutes north of me so I had to leave at 8:30....we were under a severe thunderstorm warning all morning, the winds were really strong when I was driving.
I am remembering...the weekend just past and how much fun Honey Bear and I had on our road trip to Jemison, Alabama to purchase some fruit trees....we also visited Ozan Winery while we were in the area and spent the night in Calera with points he had earned with Choice Hotels.
Creating this...a crocheted scarf and a bear...I intended to have a photograph but didn't take it in time...I began both these projects over the weekend....I'm still working on GJ, just need to add the hanging sleeve, the label and one more side of the binding then I'll be tacking that down by hand......the new SAL begins today....I will be drawing off my stitchery patterns and putting needle to cloth this evening.
I am currently reading...Franklin and Eleanor....I have been trying to finish it up before Book Club on Friday....Fireflies in December has been put on the back burner for now.
One year ago today...It was 35 degrees...I was reading "Alpine Quilt" by Mary Daheim...I was getting ready to go to The Red Rooster Retreat....I had a navel orange and cinnamon toast for breakfast
I am hoping...my ear ache/head ache goes away soon...I have taken pain medication and am waiting for it to work.....
On my mind...all the things I want to accomplish today
Noticing that...tornado season has started....someone was killed yesterday when their mobile home was picked up and exploded in the air....
Pondering these words..."While you are proclaiming peace with your lips, be careful to have it even more fully in your heart."
Francis of Assisi
From the kitchen.. nothing much at all.......probably some tuna for lunch or a green salad with some salmon on top.
Around the house...there are things that need doing but I plan to spend the rest of the day in the studio
I am praying for...so many have requested prayer and I am afraid I failed to keep a list....Denise(Shortybear) is home from the hospital but still has a lot of recovering to do...her honey, Eddie needs prayers for strength and peace as he cares for her at home.....I pray for the family of the man killed in yesterday's storm and the others who had damage to property.....Patsy's sister has terminal cancer, I pray for her family in the days ahead...praying for my family always....Father God, you know the ones who have requested prayer on their blogs that I have read about. I lift them up to you now, in Jesus name.
A few plans for the week...get some work done in the studio....Dinner at church Wednesday night....Council meeting Thursday...Book Club Friday....shop for groceries sometime before the weekend
One of my favorite things...seeing the first blooms of Spring
From my picture file
I finally had a chance to give The Princess her crochet lesson last Thursday...she loved it...we have to work on the tension..her stitches are tiny but consistent....I am planning to do a scrapbook page with the pictures of her learning heritage skills....she asked me about knitting...I don't knit...I told her I thought it was probably harder than crochet...anyone out there who does both and could answer to that?   We also started a puzzle but she wasn't here long enough to work on it much..I picked her up from Art class both Thursday and Friday  so that cut into our time together....Precious Memories we are making...For this I am thankful that I was able to move back closer to my daughter.
Have a blessed week....now I'd better get busy on preparing my stitchery patterns or I will be behind everyone else.

  2. I hope that Old Man Winter has gone to sleep. Ready for spring! And I agree with you that blogging is taking up too much of my time this morning too. I enjoy it so much, but it can definitely be a distraction for me. Hope you feel better soon! Thanks for sharing your Daybook.

  5. So glad you're having that time with your granddaughter creating such memories. I have wonderful memories of times with my grandmother.

    Hope you're feeling better.

I'm hoping we're done with winter, too, though I wouldn't be surprised if we had another cold snap or two.

  7. I love reading your day book. You know that though. I love seeing Princess learning to crochet. I have got to get my grands back over for another lesson. It helps me to learn. I am so sorry for that mans family that was killed in the storm. I will pray for the family and all your requests. You know that I have an unspoken one that I would love for you to help me pray for. Have a great week.

  9. My grandmother taught me to crochet. Your picture brought back beautiful memories of those days.......

Tornado season here also and we have already had our first big storm. We do not have a cellar here and when Mom and Dad were out here we had to watch the warnings closely.

Dennis' office at the University in built up in a hill so it is a perfect place to go in bad weather. We just had to drive up the hill to his door which was a large covered overhang an go inside. There was a couch and comfy chair and bathrooms for men and women.

BUT it took us almost 30 minutes to get Mom and Dad dressed and out of the house and in the car. The University is only 4 minutes away but in a raging storm that is a long way. So, we were very proactive and if it even looked like it was going to come our way we would leave.

Now this season, me and Dennis can be out the door and to the University in just minutes.... (Moses goes in his traveling cage and goes with us and Ezekiel goes in the interior bathroom. (no dogs allowed in the college)

Anyway..... I hate the storms but love the season........

    Hugs girl!

  10. I was browsing through your blog, noting the Spring weather. It sounds so nice, but so far away for us....we're getting a rain storm over the past couple of days, that has taken some of the 50+ centimeters of snow back. We could actually see a little green, near the trees. The warmer temperatures are hopeful for a lovely Spring.
We're just happy this is falling as rain and not ...more...snow!!
...looking forward to a beautiful Spring!!!
