Wednesday Hodge Podge

From this Side of the Pond

1. April showers bring May flowers or so the saying goes. Has your April been filled with showers? Do you carry an umbrella, wear a slicker, or make a run for it? Besides rain, what else has filled your April? If I'm out in a downpour, I'll use an umbrella. If its just a light sprinkle, I'll wear a windbreaker with a hood. We've had a few rainy days but I was lucky enough to stay inside.....planting flowers, wearing capris and sandals, Easter celebration.

2. What's something you could you give a 30-minute presentation on at a moment's notice and with zero preparation? Genealogy

3. Share with us a favorite food memory from childhood. When corn was ready for picking from the garden, Mother would put an ear or two in the oven to roast, then we'd eat it with salt and butter. Yum

4. What's a song you thought you knew the lyrics to, but later discovered you were wrong?

5. According to one travel website, the most overrated tourist attractions in America are-
Niagara Falls (NY), Hollywood Walk of Fame (California), Times Square (NYC), Epcot (FL), Seattle Space Needle (WA), and Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market (Boston). How many of these have you seen in person? Did you feel like a tourist? Did you care? Tell us about a place (not on the list) you've visited that might be considered a tourist trap, but you love it anyway. Niagara Falls, we stopped by on our way somewhere else in the early Fall, it was raining and chilly, we got soaked and couldn't really tell that much about it........Seattle Space Needle, with my inner ear problem, I would have to say it wasn't a great experience but I did it.  I didn't really feel like a tourist.....We tend to take the unbeaten path and go where it is least crowded, so I have no answer to the last question.

6. Your signature clothing item? a knit three quarter length sleeve top, in red, black or blue.

7. What's an experience you've had you think everyone should experience at least once? Why?

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I didn't have an answer to a couple of these, mainly because nothing came to mind.....Honey Bear and I took a risk once and opened a franchise...for the next 2 years we worked 7 days a week and sometimes were midnight getting home....meanwhile we watched our savings dwindle away month by month while the business never broke even....closing was a tough decision but the right one for us....looking back I believe that we were blessed during the struggle and learned a lot about each other....we met many wonderful people.....We are not sorry we did this but I certainly wouldn't recommend that others do it..Life is a journey, sometimes hard and sometimes easy but Faith and Love can help you as you travel.

  1. It's been very wet and even stormy, but thankfully this week the sun is coming out more. I never used an umbrella until college - it rained so much there one was really needed. I keep one in the car but don't like to mess with it unless it's doing more than sprinkling. We live near Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, and a lot of the shops are touristy. That's one drawback to the area - the crowds and the traffic at peak season. We visited Mt. Rushmore one and I remember being underwhelmed - from our vantage point it didn't look as massive as it really is.
