A Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today...Thursday, February 25, 2016

Outside my window...its 39 degrees and cloudy....last weekend it was around 60 so this is a change...no bird activity, I imagine the Hawk is nearby....the grass is getting green and I saw daffodils blooming this week.

A Bible verse I'm sharing...Proverbs 31: 30 "Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised."

I am thinking..."Time keeps on slipping, slipping into the future...

I am thankful...for my home, husband and family...for our health, although we're both recovering from illness, we're basically healthy...for friends....that all our needs are met....

I am wearing...O No, I'm still in my pajamas, these are black with white poka dots

I am creating...a quilted Nature's Journey

I am going...to stay home today

On my prayer list...both my daughter and granddaughter are having back problems.....Honey Bear's health issues.....my other granddaughter's pregnancy....others

I am reading...Magnolia Wednesdays by Wendy Wax....(surely that is a pen name)...on my daughter's smaller Kindle which takes getting used to after using my Kindle Fire.

I am hoping...to finish quilting this quilt today so that I can begin binding it and soon be finished

I am learning...new things, always

In his garden...not much is growing as it is winter

A song that stays on my mind...'Home by Alan Jackson'

In my kitchen...Loaded Baked Potatoes for dinner

A favorite quote for today..."If you can't see the bright side, polish the dull side.....Author Unknown

From my photo album...

One of my favorite things...Hanging out in my pajamas

Wednesday Hodge Podge

The questions in this Hodge Podge or from February 17th.

1. February 17th is National Random Acts of Kindness Day. It lands on the calendar one day after National Do Something for a Grouch Day (February 16) which somehow feels related. Perhaps the 16th inspired the 17th?

Tell about a time you performed a random act of kindness or were the recipient of one. Will you make an effort to perform a random act of kindness on the 17th? Share details if you're so inclined, and if you have something specific in mind.
I cannot give a specific date but I often help shoppers out at the grocery store if they are in one of those scooters and cannot reach an item or if they're behind me in line, I'll ask if I can help unload their basket.

2.What's the most uplifting or encouraging thing you see happening in the world right now? You may have to dig deep for this one.
A new charity place opened recently in our area which serves meals on special occasions, gives out food weekly and has a clothes shop where people can shop for free.....I went by a couple of Saturdays ago to drop off donations from my WMU and there was a line out the door and the parking lot was full.....This is run by a local teacher and his wife with volunteers who saw a  need and are filling it.

3. Black olives, black currants, black grapes, black beans, blackberries, Oreos...your favorite food the color of night? Black Olives Your least favorite on the list?    Black Beans.....or Blackberries because of their seeds

4. A while back I read (here) a list of twelve things you should do before you turn 50. They were-

travel when you have the chance, take care of your skin, learn a foreign language, make exercise a habit, leave a toxic situation, stop caring what others think about you, stop worrying, volunteer, spend time with your grandparents, pledge to work less, learn to cook an amazing dish, and seize an opportunity as it arises

What do you think of the list?  I like some of the things and agree with them. What would you add or remove and why? Making exercise a habit is something that would be good for all of us... If you're over 50, have you done all 12? No If you're not yet 50, have you done any at all? What's on the list that you haven't done, but would like to do? I know that when loved ones are no longer with us, we regret that we didn't spend more time with them.  I don't regret that I've not learned another language...sometimes it would be great to not care what others think of us...

5. Besides the classic Christmas flicks, what's your favorite film where winter plays a part in the setting?
Sleepless in Seattle

6.When did you last feel helpless, and what did you do about it?
As a mother, we want to fix things for our children and grandchildren, no matter their age....last February when my Daughter's ex-husband passed away at age 46, I very much wanted to heal their broken hearts....all I could do was be there for them...my Daughter still loved her ex and so did we...she wasn't comfortable in her role since she was not the spouse but was the mother of his children. This was one occasion when it wasn't important what anyone else thought about her being there....I was pleased that his parents were understanding and helpful to her and the children.

7. Share a favorite proverb.
I love the 31st chapter of Proverbs verses 10-31, the New Living Translation

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I've been absent again for a while....winter is not a good time for me...and my household has not been healthy...I miss doing this Wednesday questionnaire...

A Bible verse I'm sharing...Matthew 25:35,36&40: For I was hungry and you fed me. I was thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you invited me into your home.
