A Simple Woman's Daybook

From Mama Bear's Journal.....
FOR TODAY...Sunday, December 2, 2012

Outside my window...it's 53°F, 12°C, and partly cloudy with a predicted high today of 71....wonderful weather....the birds are eating the pears from the Bradford trees, the Carolina Wrens are eating the suet, all is calm...

I am thinking...two weeks have gone by since last I blogged....sorry about that....I don't know where all that time has gone

I am thankful...for so many blessings.....we spent Thanksgiving Day with Honey Bear's Brother's family at our niece's house.....then on Sunday we attended the funeral of his Aunt where we saw most of the rest of his family...his Aunt never married but had lots of nieces and nephews which were like her own children...

From the kitchen...I made a pot of Chicken Tortilla Soup for dinner last night....haven't decided on tonight's meal

I am wearing...pink pajamas

I am creating...more stitches on that cross stitch I've had in the works for months (have used up my supply of needle threaders, so frustrating), crocheting little bags for gifts....
finished this quilt, finally...

and made this mini quilt wall hanging
from a kit I won here

I am going...to stay home today....

One year ago today...I was decorating for Christmas....listening to Christmas music, getting ready to bake cookies.....I was reading Far Away Home.....and looking forward to our club's party...I had just begun the applique for the quilt shown above...

I am wondering...if I should decorate any today or just spend the day in meditation and contemplation...

These days I'm reading...Shepherd's Abiding.....I read this several years ago but it was chosen as December's book in my book club so I'm reading it again...

I am praying...for my grandson who has been having lots of tests since October when he fainted at dinner one night......my x son-in-law....my sister, whose Birthday is today (must remember to call her later).....for strength and lots of energy to accomplish the items on my to-do list......for will power in my weight loss struggle....for all of my friends and followers

I remember when...as a child, my Daddy would buy a crate of apples (red delicious) at Christmas time, store them in one of the unheated bedrooms, how wonderful they smelled.....it was the only time of year we had store-bought apples....

I am looking forward to...a meeting on Thursday with a pot luck lunch...the theme is Nutcrackers Suite....my club made the table favors by using Mylar and net circles, filling them with candy and tying with ribbon, we have little nutcracker ornaments and a candy cane to lay beside them....

A verse for today...Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. John 14:1

Discovering that....I don't have the energy or the inspiration to decorate or bake as I once did....I can be satisfied with less...

I am hearing...mostly silence.....I can hear traffic in the far distance....and the occasional birdsong.....

Around the house...there's clutter in the study from pulling out the decoration tubs....my studio is a mess (I'm considering switching my creative space to the study and turning the studio back into a dining room).....gifts and gift wrapping are part of the clutter....clothes in the basket from Friday's laundry which haven't been folded....I've put the lights on the porch, Honey Bear will do the ones on the shrubbery....I have cleared the mantle for decorating....I moved furniture around in our living room yesterday (do you do this? I get tired of it being the same way and need to switch it around...my Mother and we girls used to do this on a regular basis).....

Song that stays on my Mind...For a change, there isn't one at the moment

A favorite quote for today..."There's nothing sadder in this world than to awake Christmas morning and not be a child." -- Erma Bombeck

"Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time." -- Laura Ingalls Wilder

One of my favorite things...finishing my Christmas shopping early

A few plans for the rest of the week:meetings on Monday and Thursday, hair appointment & lunch with friend on Wednesday, Making sure the Princess gets to her music program on time Tuesday, Decorating the mantle, putting the tree up and tidying the house....

From my photo file....

a couple of photos at sunset while we were in the mountains

Praying your week is filled with all the good things
you hold dear....

  1. Love your picture of bears quilting in your header!

Thankfully we still decorate all together. We never used to do so after Thanksgiving but now that my oldest is out of state, we decorate when he is home for thanksgiving. My youngest gets the tubs down from the attic, I set the things out on the mantle and other surfaces while they wrangle the tree into the holder and get lights on it, and we all hang ornaments together. When they are not all here to do that we may do less -- I think it would be exhausting to do it by ourselves. Or we'd have to take several days.

    Hope your grandson is ok.

  9. Haven't we been having the most pleasant temperatures lately? I'm loving it. Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving. We did too.

Chicken tortilla soup...I've never made it, but love it. Maybe I'll get the ingredients today when I'm at Walmart. Loving the new one in Madison. :-)

"I can be satisfied with less..."
That's a sign of maturity and wisdom! I want to grow more and more in that direction.

    Enjoy your week!

  10. I enjoyed reading your daybook.
I always find it so interesting to read how people from all over the world spend their day!
Here in Australia its summer (temp 37C) but we are going to Canada for Christmas ( minus 2C at the moment) so I think we'll be in for a cold shock.

    I love your photos...they are beautiful ;D
