Sunday Morning Coming Down

Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor fear the dangers of the day,
nor dread the plague that stalks in darkness,
If you make the Lord your refuge,
if you make the Most High your shelter,
no evil will conquer you;
no plague will come near your dwelling...

He will not let you stumble or fall;
the one who watches over you will not sleep.
Psalms 91:56, 9-10; 121:3

When we first moved to Memphis and Honey Bear was traveling, I was somewhat uneasy at night, at home by myself....I would lie in bed staring at the darkness(even with a night light) and hearing all sorts of unnerving sounds....
While in Bible study one Tuesday, our instructor talked to us girls about how she had feared the darkness, alone when her husband worked nights as an air traffic controller, until God led her to certain verses in the Bible where it spoke of God's watch care over us as we sleep.
"I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety." Psalm 4:8
Often after that, I found myself repeating that same verse until peace and sleep overtook me.
......On Thursday night, this past week, when I read by candlelight, I opened the pages of a new book: The Canopy by Angela Hunt and found those passages at the beginning of this post and knew that God had led me to them so that, once again, I would know no fear of the darkness because He was with me and therefore I am never alone.

  1. AMEN.

    I love Psalm 91:4, I read this Psalm each morning as part of my Daily Devotions.

    Hebrews 13:4 "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."

    Pastor led us in prayer this morning for all those affected by the horrible storms. I think everyone was crying (I was).

    Blessings

  2. I was always afraid of the dark.. As I grew up it got much worse and when my husband worked midnight shift I would stay up all night and clean house and lay down just as the sun would come up...... that made for a very tired Denise. I lived like that for years until I started to deal with it via scripture. It took a while for me to undo all the years of fear but at last the fear left...... The bible tells us that fear has torment..... how true is that......

    So glad you are better and that the word of God has dispelled the darkness and allowed in the light of his protection.....

    Hugs

  3. I am glad you found comfort in God's word. I have been busy with church rummage sale and too tired to even check posts. Glad you are safe as I was concerned when I saw news.
