A Simple Woman's Daybook

From Mama Bear's Journal.....
Outside my window...Its wet and dark...50 °F,(10 °C)...thunderstorms predicted but no dangerous storms...I can see my flowers, some have survived being washed out of their planters twice, not all....lots of pine tree limbs on the ground, some hanging from the trees where they have caught on other limbs...The Cardinal family is on the feeder and I see a Goldfinch on the Mealy Worm feeder
Hearing...the occasional thunder in the distance...some kind of motor..fan on the computer...rain
I am thinking...how wonderful it is not to hear the neighbor's generators this morning...those things are loud and when there are several going at once its unreal
Feeling thankful for...Honey Bear,150 watt converters with multiple outlets that let you plug into the car to charge phones, electricity (ours came back last night after 5 days), gas grills, ice, solar lights, flashlights & candles, cool weather when we can't use the AC, a home that's still standing......
I am remembering...all the devastation in our state...some I've seen first hand and others in photos...and living through the tornadoes that kept coming one after another...sitting in the hall with the local news channel on when we lost electricity in the mist of it all
Creating this...I've gotten much done on the prayer shawl and the cross stitch projects...Sunday I traced my stitchery with a flashlight in my light box and I'm almost finished stitching one of the ones for May....
I am currently reading...A Thread of Truth by Marie Bostwick
One year ago today...I had been having vertigo for several days...It was hot outside...I was reading Higher Hope by Robert Whitlow...there had been floods in Tennessee....tornadoes in Alabama...
I am hoping...to get my house in order today
On my mind...so much: the recovery...workers having to deal with the rain on top of everything else...all the folks still missing...how so many have volunteered to help and made donations....the owner of the gas station where we stopped for ice who gave it to us at cost...the desk clerk at the hotel who gave us a room at noon instead of 3:00 so we could get our food in the fridge and put ice in our coolers and rest without having to hang around for 3 hours waiting....the store employees at Kroger who went out of their way to help yesterday....so many people doing good work...Bless them Lord..
Noticing that...I slept better last night and this morning than I have since this all happened..
Pondering these words..."The Lord is my light and my salvation--so why should I be afraid? The Lord protects me from danger--why should I tremble?" Psalm 27:1
From the kitchen...a clean but almost empty refrigerator and freezer...coffee that wasn't cooked on a gas grill....bagels toasted in a toaster...ice chests with ice and water that need to be emptied
Around the house...floors that need vacuuming...clothes that need laundered...suitcases that need to be unpacked....chaos that needs to be dealt with...
I am praying for...Honey Bear (he went back to Memphis last night), the victims of the storms who have lost loved ones and their homes...the volunteers and power company workers trying to put things back in some sort of order...Daughter and her family
A few plans for the week...finish tidying the house and doing laundry...tomorrow's my Birthday so I would like to go out and celebrate....buy a few groceries...Book Club on Friday(not sure we'll still have it)...
One of my favorite things...Hot showers!
From my picture file...More Charleston benches....and yes, there are still more to come...

this one was outside the barn...

  2. I thank God for your safety and pray for you to enjoy peace once again soon.

Thanks for the lovely benches and even the practical ones. I see you have caught the "bug" for photographing benches.

  3. Thanks for visiting my blog, I'm following you on google!
I'm glad you and yours are safe. We visited the southern states some years ago - I just loved it there and have been so sad watching the destruction on the news. I hope you have a wonderful birthday! Mine is at month's end - though I only have "Un-Birthdays" now, so..... ;-)
    Blessings,
    Lisa
